Computers Stolen
Only in the "hood" or "ghetto" areas of Philadelphia would you hear about computers stolen from a local high school. Sometimes I wonder why people do the things they do? Every time I turn on the news there is yet another story that makes me wonder what the hell has the world come to. For those individuals who decided to pull such an act, did they not realize how stupid they are. I could of understood if they stole lap tops or something but these dummies stole PCs. What took me by surprise with this story is how the hell were they able to get away with this? Though I'm pretty sure there's more to this story that I haven't heard, this just buggs the crap out of me. First, there are no computers in schools and it is a huge problem. Then, once we get them these ignorant kids steal them. This just doesn't make any sense.
Munchausen syndrome by proxy
Last week in my Criminal Justice 497 course we talked about munchausen syndrome by proxy. MSP is a mental illness in which a person, usually a parent , acts as if an individual he or she is caring for has a mental or physical illness. The person suffering from this illness produces or lies about the person being sick and often results to making the individual sick purposely just to gain attention from others. This form of abuse usually happens to children and older adults who cannot fend for themselves. This is sad because for someone to go to such measures for attention is ridiculous. What I don't understand is how people can purposely and knowingly inflict harm on another just to gain a little attention or make themselves look good. Because this has turned into a common form of abuse, people who are found guilty of perpetrating this act can face possible jail time. I think this is a great idea because just like murderers or rapists these people are criminals.

Just recently I had a talk with a friend about face book and disclosing all of her private information. I don't understand how people can put their life out there for the world to see and then get mad when everyone knows their business. You would think that people would be smart enough to realize that face book is a social networking site, where millions of people can access your information. It's kind of funny because for some, it is perfectly fine to disclose all of their private business, yet if they had any sense they would realize that is a dumb ass idea. I'm sorry but people who put all of their business out for the world to see needs to be slapped. It doesn't make sense how stupid and naive people can be. F.Y.I people NOTHING is private on face book!!!!!

Woman duct tapes baby to chair
So apparently a woman is in custody for duct taping her 2 yr old child to a chair. Now from my understanding, this woman took pictures and posted them online for others to see. A friend of the woman says that the mother thought it was funny. My problem with this is what the hell was she thinking. It's a shame I don't understand why someone would do that to a child. I don't care how "bad" this child may have been but at the end of the day, she is 2yrs old. This bugs me because parents today are so stupid and impatient its ridiculous. There should be some type of test that determines if a person should be a parent.
When should parents talk about sex?
As I am watching t.v the topic of sex came up. The show I'm watching is called the talk and here they discuss and explore numerous topics. So when sex came up it turned into a debate. The question at hand at is when is it right for parents to talk to their children about sex. I think that parents should talk about sex with their kids before they become teens. A lot of people won't agree with that but I believe its never too early for the talk. The reason why is because now we have more young children who are molested, raped or even sexually active and I think that these kids should be aware of what is really taking place. In addition, I feel as though if parents decided to talk to their kids about sex then it would help with teen pregnancy and STD rates. By having the talk with children, I think that parents will have better relationship with their kids and the kids will be prepared for whats to come.

The things we take for granted
For me today felt like one of my worst days ever. It never dawned on me that there are so many people who are far worse off than me. As I sit here now I realize that there are a lot of things that we take for granted in life. Right now I am in college and working yet I still find reasons to complain and feel like something is missing. Yet, there are people around the world who are dying to have my life or a life like mine. Everyday I complain about work or school but I never think about those who cannot get an education or a job to provide for themselves or their family. It always seems like if things aren't going in our favor then somethings wrong. I believe that if we spent more time on helping others than complaining then one day every one will be satisfied. I feel as though people who have been blessed are never satisfied whereas those who are waiting for their blessing are constantly denied.
"What we talk about when we talk about love" or "Beginners"
After reading these two stories I could say that "Beginners" is the one I liked the most. The reason why I enjoyed this story more was because I was able to relate to it a bit more. In both stories there are two couples sitting around drinking and talking about love, yet Lish's version comes off as more believable and realistic. I like Lish's version better because of how sentimental he made the characters. The best part of this story was Mel (Herb) 's story about the old couple. In Carver's version it just mentioned the accident, the couple's life and how they reunited in the hospital. Whereas Lish's version places the old couple in a hospital room together in body casts which prevented them from seeing each other and he mentions how distraught the old man was just because he could not see his wife. Just the story about the older couple alone made me favor Lish's version even more. I think that Lish brought out more emotion in his version than Carver did. Although they were both great I think that "Beginners" provides a better message about what love is and how it is expressed.

Watching Oprah
I just saw an episode of Oprah that really took me by surprise. This segment was about twin girls who were raped and molested by their two older brothers and father. What really got to me was the fact that neither the brothers or father felt remorse towards the girls. I don't understand how they can even live with themselves. As I was watching this I couldn't help but get teary eyed because of the lives these girls were forced to live. The girls mentioned that the abuse began when they were 5 yrs old and it just upsets me to hear that this is what some young children go through. The thought of someone raping an innocent child sends chills up my spine. Nothing disgusts me more than pedophiles. Its a shame that these girls will always have to live with these horrific memories.

7 teens arrested for bullying
I think that those 7 teens who bullied this boy deserves everything coming to them. What I don't understand is how these teen's family members and friends can stand up for them. I admit family should be supportive but how do you expect these kids to learn their lesson, if others are encouraging their behaviors. I am really happy to hear that these teens will be charged with felonies and could possibly be convicted. Its a shame that it has to result to this but I think with all the bullying happening in the world it is time to show teens how serious this can be.
When a mother kills
Last week a crazed Tampa woman shot her son and daughter because they were "disrespectful". The Tampa police arrested Julie Powers Schenecker after she admitted to fatally murdering her children. Ages 16 and 13, Julie Powers Schenecker shot her children with a .38 caliber gun. Both children were found in the upstairs bedroom of the family home. According to authorities Mrs. Schenecker was driving her son to soccer practice when she shot him in the head for talking back to her. Very furious she then drove to her home where she shot her teenage daughter in her face.
This is a tragedy that I don't think anyone would of expected. Everyone knows how teenagers are and how they can act. Especially in the world we live in today, teenagers are wild, out of control and disrespectful. Majority of the time, I believe that it is the parents fault for their child's out of control behavior. I totally understand with parents disciplining their children but to go as far as child abuse and murder is absurd. This motto that parents follow, "I brought you in this world and I'll take you out" has blown completely out of proportion. I feel as though if she really could not handle her children or was struggling she should of asked for help. By no means necessary should she have just shot her children. I don't understand what triggered this woman to do such a horrific thing but she did and now these two teenagers are dead and will never get a chance at life. This really gets under mu skin because it is such a sad situation because not only are two people dead but their murderer is alive and even in jail still living.

What some parents do
As we all know last night there was a snow/ice storm that hit the city of Philadelphia. Unfortunately in my neighborhood there many homes and schools that lost electricity, so why is it that even with a 2 hr delay parents were still trying to send their children to school? The thing that bothers me with this situation is 1) schools were already delayed so the students wouldn't even be there for too long and 2) what kind of parents would leave their child in a building with no electricity or heat? Are things really that bad at some of these homes where parents cannot deal with their children? What makes this situation worse is that many parents rely on schools and teachers to raise their children, so if there is no school then they are in a jam. But how desperate can a parent be for heaven's sake its 30 something degrees outside and there is no electricity in the entire building.
I don't even understand why the school district just did not close the school for the day. What difference would it have made if these students missed another day of class. Obviously the students cannot learn anything and it makes it more of a hassle for the teachers who have to be stuck with these children. The sad part is that no matter how you look at the situation, these parents still left their children and for what nothing but a couple of hrs off of mommy/daddy duty. However, some of these parents may have had no other choice but to leave their child maybe because of work or other circumstances. But on the other hand some of these parents are so lazy and ignorant that it may not have even bothered them leaving their children. For the lazy and ignorant parents, they should really be ashamed of themselves. Not only do I think that this is ridiculous but I consider this neglect and child endangerment. Leave to me I would charge all of these parents just because of their careless actions.
